24 HR DRONE \\\/// 6 HR YOGA
A Seamless 24 hour sound and yoga event curated by Melissa Auf Der Maur, Nathan Larson, Bardi Johannsson.
ARCTIC DRONE is an immersive art event and all-encompassing experience, inspired by international series, featuring musicians and sound artists experimenting within the spectrum of drone to create 24 hours of unbroken, uninterrupted sound with sustained tones shaped by voice or instrumentation, transcend time, genre and music itself. This is a shared experience devoted to unifying players and listeners alike.
It has appeared in traditional folk music around the world for thousands of years. Tibetan Buddhists use tonal chanting while Celtic and Middle Eastern countries play the bagpipes. Indian music is drone featuring instruments such as the sitar and tanura. The word “drone” is derived from the old English “drane”, which means “to hover” like a hummingbird or a bee

Suggestions for enjoying this event
Turn off/put away your phone. | Remove shoes + Uncomfortable clothing. | Take a blanket and find a spot. | Come and go as you please, respectfully. | Explore different areas of the room. | Applause is not necessary. | Relax. Sleep if you wish. | This is about your body's response to and relationship with soundwaves. | Sit comfortably. Experiment with your position. If you're lying down, the soundwaves move horizontally across your body, massaging your internal organs. | Be mindful of your neighbor. | Above all, enjoy this experience. We're glad to have you with us.

“There is geometry in the humming of the strings, there is music in the spacing of the spheres.”
ARCTIC DRONE is inspired by the 24 HR DRONE and it’s International Satellite Program. A partnership between Basilica Hudson, LUMEN PROJECT, LE GUESS WHO? and a small collective of musicians and organizations committed to expanding the mission of 24-HOUR DRONE internationally, to deepen our connection with faraway devotees of art and experimentation.
ABOUT BASILICA HUDSON
Basilica Hudson is a non-profit multidisciplinary arts center in Hudson, NY, supporting the creation, production and presentation of independent and innovative arts and culture while fostering sustainable community, ecology and economy. Founded in 2010 by musician Melissa Auf der Maur and filmmaker Tony Stone, Basilica Hudson makes its home in a spectacular solar-powered reclaimed 1880s industrial factory on the waterfront of the historic City of Hudson on the banks of the Hudson River. Weekend destination events comprise the core of Basilica Hudson’s music, performance, film, food and literary programming, alongside regular film screenings series, art exhibitions, and other community gatherings.
ABOUT LUMEN PROJECT
LUMEN PROJECT was established in Stockholm in 2017. We are lacking spaces to come together and experience awe, illustrated by Alain de Botton’s metaphor of “atheist cathedrals.” LUMEN PROJECT takes this metaphor literally. What many of us seek is a church-like context, free of the trappings and baggage of religious or culturally specific iconography, within which we can congregate to recover that sense of human belonging. LUMEN PROJECT has organized 12 hr events in Beirut, in Stockholm, and look to push the format further out into the world, in conjunction with our partners at BASILICA HUDSON, RUPTURED BEIRUT, LE GUESS WHO? and more.
