The Western part of Iceland is a spectacular area. Snæfellsnes peninsula is famous for its glacier, Snæfellsjökull mentioned by Jules Verne in his novel "Journey to the Center of the Earth" and the countless islands in the Breiðafjörður bay with its colourful bird and sea life. The area has an interesting folklore and tales of adventure as many of the Icelandic sagas took place in the area.
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND
Arrival in Iceland. If time allows, go for an exploration walk around Reykjavík.
Overnight in Fosshotel Reykjavík in a upgraded room.
Day 2: WHALE FJORD AND SAGA VALLEY
Explore the scenic Whale fjord and the valley of Borgarfjörður. Stop at Europe´s most powerful hot spring, Deildartunguhver.
Spend 2 nights in the Borgarfjörður area at Fosshotel Reykholt in a upgraded room
Day 3: HUSAFELL AND HRAUNFOSSAR
Spend the day at Hraunfossar and Barnafoss waterfalls, known for their stunning natural beauty. Proceed onwards to Húsafell area and go for a hike in the amazing landscape. Afterwards, relax in the outdoor swimming pool at Húsafell.
Day 4: SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA
Drive on the south coast of Snæfellsnes peninsula to explore the spatter ring crater Eldborg as well as the seal colony in Ytri-Tunga. Overnight 3 nights in Fosshotel Hellnar in a upgraded room.
Day 5: SNÆFELLSNES NATIONAL PARK
Discover the snow-capped volcano Snæfellsnesjökull and book an optional snowmobile or glacier walk tour. There are plenty of well-marked paths in the area inviting you to undertake an unforgettable hike.
Day 6: SIGHTS OF BREIÐARFJÖRÐUR
Start the day at Stykkisholmur, a pretty fishing village with numerous old houses, and go on a boat tour on Breiðafjörður bay. You should see plenty of puffins and other birds on the uncountable small islands in the fjord. After the boat tour, visit the famous and unique exhibition Library of water.
Day 7: SETTLEMENT CENTER IN BORGARNES
Travel back to Reykjavík. Make a pit stop in Borgarnes and visit the popular Saga Settlement Centre.
Overnight in an upgraded room at Fosshotel Reykjavík.
Day 8: DEPART FOR HOME
If time allows: Enjoy Reykjavík, or explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for relaxation.
