In this tour you will see the most popular places in east Iceland. Starting with a drive along the scenic south coast to the east, you will be able to see the magnificent waterfalls, the largest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull, and you might even spot the legendary aquatic monster- giant worm that is said to live in the Lagarfljót river. You will also have the chance to visit Petra’s Stone collection.
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND
Arrival in Iceland. If time allows, go for an exploration walk around Reykjavík.
Overnight in Reykjavík in one of our 3-star-hotels.
Day 2: ICELANDS SOUTH COAST
Travel along the southern coast of Icleand on Road #1. Stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss at the edge of the worlds famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall. Stop further in Vík to take a walk on the black sand beach. While driving get impressed with the view to the mighty Vatnajökull glacier.
Overnight for three nights in one of our hotels in Vatnajökull region.
Day 3: VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER
Use the whole day to enjoy the Vatnajökull area with the national park Skaftafell. Here you find nice well marked paths for a hike. Book an optional guided glacier hike trip. Or go ice climbing with one of the guides from Skaftafell National Park.
Day 4: GLACIER LAGOON AND PUFFINS
Take a trip on the cape Ingólfshöfði and watch the puffins. Drive to the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón and take a boat trip in the lagoon. Stop at the farm Brunnhóll for the famous glacier ice cream, which is considered to be one of the best tasting in Iceland.
DAY 5: HÖFN AND THE EAST FJORDS
Drive east along the mighty glacier Vatnajökull. Visit the small fishing village of Höfn before proceeding further east where you will drive along the scenic east fjords.
Stay three nights in Fosshotel Eastfjords.
DAY 6: LAGARFLJÓT RIVER AND HALLORMSSTAÐUR
Spend a whole day discovering east Iceland. Travel along the coastline of the Lagarfljót river and stop in Hallormsstaður, where Iceland’s largest forest is located.
See the magnificent waterfall Hengifoss.
DAY 7: BORGARFJORDUR AND THE PUFFIN
A day tour is available to visit the northernmost fjord of the Eastfjords, Borgarfjörður famous for its large puffin population. Before returning to the hotel, you must visit Álfaborg (a uniquely shaped rock castle) where the queen elves is believed to dwell.
DAY 8: PETRA´S STONE AND MINERAL COLLECTION
Today you travel back to the town of Höfn. Take your time to enjoy the stunning east fjords and their unforgettable scenery. On your way to Höfn, stop in Stöðvarfjörður to visit Petra’s Stone collection, a large collection of icelandic stones.

Day 9: WONDERS OF SOUTH ICELAND
Drive along the south coast and witness many natural wonders such a black lava beaches, waterfalls and glaciers.
Stay in Fosshotel Hekla or similar.
Day 10: GULLFOSS WATERFALL AND GEYSIR HOT SPRING AREA
Visit Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot spring area in Haukadalur and Þingvellir National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site.
Overnight two nights in Reykjavík in one of our 3-star hotels.
Day 11: REYKJANES PENINSULA AND REYKJAVÍK
If you´re keen on further exploration before heading home, the Reykjanes peninsula has plenty to see, such as the Blue Lagoon, Gunnuhver or Krýsuvík hot spring areas and Keilir mountain. The picturesque surroundings around lake Kleifarvatn are not to be missed. You don´t want to miss the chance to cross between the two continents of Europe and North America on the bridge between continents.
DAY 11: DEPART FOR HOME
If time allows: Enjoy Reykjavík or explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for relaxation.
