During the 17 day All around Iceland Tour you will experience all of Iceland´s main attractions. You will drive along the magnificent West fjords with its stunning fjords and majestic mountains. You will have enough time to go on tours in order to explore Iceland more closely.
This is the ultimate tour with suitable time spent at Iceland´s major nature spots. Explore dramatic landscapes and some of the world’s finest waterfalls, visit erupting geysers in the great Geysir hot spring area and Thingvellir, a UNESCO world heritage site. Enjoy Vatnajökull glacier, the glacial lagoon Jökulsárlón and many other unique places.
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND
Arrival in Iceland. If time allows, go for a exploration walk around Reykjavík.
Overnight in Reykjavík in one or our 3-star-hotels.
Day 2: WHALE FJORD AND SAGA VALLEY
Explore the scenic Whale fjord and the valley of Borgarfjörður.
Spent the night in the Borgarfjörður area at Fosshotel Reykholt.
Day 3: SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA
Explore the Snæfellsnes peninsula with its snow capped volcano, stunning coastline, lava fields and bird colonies.
Overnight in one of our hotels on Snæfellsnes peninsula.
Day 4: BREIÐARFJÖRÐUR AND THE WEST FJORDS
Take the morning ride on the ferry Baldur and travel to the west fjords. Stop at the small but beautiful island of Flatey. Head to Patreksfjörður when you´re back on dry land.
Spent two nights at Fosshotel Westfjords.
Day 5: PUFFIN WATCHING
Drive to Europe’s largest bird cliff Látrabjarg. Enjoy the magnificend view from the high cliff on Europe´s westernmost point. Afterwards, drive to the Red Sand Beach (Rauðisandur) and enjoy a walk in the picturesque landscape.
Day 6: MAGNIFICENT WEST FJORDS
Be prepared to get impressed by the stunning fjords while travelling north in this beautiful peninsula. Stop at Iceland´s most beautiful waterfall, Dynjandifoss. You will pass a lot of small villages until you reach the capital of the west fjords, Ísafjörður.
Stay for one night in a same category hotel as Fosshotel.
Day 7: SEALS IN NORTHERN ICELAND
Today you will leave the west fjords and drive along the picturesque fjords in the north back to the mainland. Stop in Hvammstangi to visit the Seal exhibition. In the area of Blönduós / Varmahlíð, spend two nights in a same category hotel as Fosshotel.
Day 8: TRÖLLASKAGI PENINSULA
Visit the small villages Siglufjörður and Hofsós on Tröllaskagi peninsula and get ready to be impressed by the surrounding mountains and deep valleys.
Day 9: AKUREYRI AND GÓÐAFOSS
Visit Akureyri, the capital of the North, and the waterfall of the gods, Goðafoss. Overnight 2 nights in one of our hotels in North Iceland.
Day 10: MÝVATN AREA
Go for a hike in the Mývatn area and get impressed by the view over this unique landscape. Enjoy an optional whale watching cruise from Húsavík in the evening (June - August).
Day 11: DETTIFOSS WATERFALL
Drive around Tjörnes peninsula and visit Europe’s most powerful waterfall, Dettifoss (mid-June to August) and drive further to the east. Overnight 2 nights in Fosshotel Eastfjords.
Day 12: HALLORMSSTAÐUR AND HENGIFOSS
Spend a whole day to discover East Iceland. Travel along the coastline of the lake Lagarfjlót. Stop in Hallormsstaðir, where Iceland’s largest forest is located. See the magnificent waterfall Hengifoss.
Day 13: EAST FJORDS
Proceed further south. Enjoy your ride along the scenic East fjords. Stop in Höfn and enjoy the cozy atmosphere in this old fishing town. Overnight two nights in our hotels in Vatnajökull area.
Day 14: VATNJÖULL REGION
Enjoy the Vatnajökull glacier, with the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón and the Skaftafell National Park. Take a trip on the cape Ingólfshöfði and watch the puffins. Stop at the farm Brunhóll for a delicious glacier ice cream.
Day 15: WONDERS OF SOUTH ICELAND
Drive along the south coast and witness many natural wonders such a black lava beaches, waterfalls and glaciers.
Stay in Fosshotel Hekla or similar.
Day 16: GULLFOSS WATERFALL AND GEYSIR HOT SPRING AREA
Your first stop should be at Þingvellir national park, a UNESCO world heritage site. The park rests in a valley created by the power of the apartdrifting tectonic plates. Keep on driving to Haukadalur hot spring area where you will see several hot springs, the most active being the geysir Strokkur, which erupts every 10 minutes. The next stop is the Gullfoss waterfall (golden waterfall). This waterfall falls in two cascades into a narrow and deep gorge. Further on at your trip will you visit the church and historical site of Skálholt before heading on to the volcanic crater Kerið.
Overnight in Reykjavík 2 nights in one of our 3-star hotels.
Day 17: REYKJANES PENINSULA AND REYKJAVÍK
If you´re keen on further exploration before heading home, the Reykjanes peninsula has plenty to see, such as the Blue Lagoon, Gunnuhver or Krýsuvík hot spring areas and Keilir mountain. The picturesque surroundings around lake Kleifarvatn are not to be missed. You don´t want to miss the chance to cross between the two continents of Europe and North America on the bridge between continents.
Day 18: DEPART FOR HOME
If time allows: Enjoy Reykjavík, or explore the Reykjanes Peninsula with a stop at the famous Blue Lagoon for relaxation.
