Travelling along the South Coast of Iceland is amazing and the exotic landscapes will leave you with unforgettable memories. The charm lies in its large and impressive waterfalls and glaciers, unique geology and fascinating medieval history.
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND
Arrival in Iceland. If time allows, take a stroll in Reykjavík centre or visit the Sun Voyager sculpture sitting at the Reykjavík coast line overlooking the Faxaflói bay. Overnight at Fosshotel Reykjavík.
Day 2: GEYSIR HOT SPRING AREA AND GULLFOSS WATERFALL
Drive via the so-called golden circle to the South. Stop at the golden waterfall, Gullfoss, the Geysir hot springs area in Haukadalur valley and Þingvellir National Park, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site. Overnight in Selfoss area.
Day 3: TRAVEL THE SOUTH COAST
Travel along the South Coast to the East. Along the way, you will see amazing waterfalls and pass famous glaciers, such as Eyjafjallajökull which is famous for its 2010 volcanic ash cloud that grounded almost all air travel in Europe for several days. Overnight for 4 nights at Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon.
Day 4: THE TOWN OF HÖFN
Visit the town of Höfn in Hornafjörður fjord and enjoy the cozy atmosphere in this old fishing town. Dine at the amazing Lobster restaurant downtown Höfn.
Day 5: VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER
Drive along the Vatnajökull glacier and head west. Before visiting Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, stop for a delicious glacier ice cream at Brunhóll.
Day 6: SKAFTAFELL NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy a trip to cape Ingólfshöfði where a large puffin colony is located. Travel further on to Skaftafell national park, where guided glacier trips are available.
Day 7: HEADING BACK
Drive back to Reykjavík along the South Coast. Stop at the beautiful black sand beaches at the town of Vík. Overnight your last night at Fosshotel Reykjavík.
Day 8: DEPART FOR HOME
If the times allows go to Reykjavík centre and do some last minute shopping perhaps and enjoy a coffee/tea in one of the cities restaurants.
