This tour will take you through spectacular landscapes, amazing waterfalls, glaciers and lava fields, the largest lava field from a single volcanic eruption, the biggest glacier in Europe, Vatnajökull and many spectacular waterfalls. Take your time to explore the highlands with a stop at the Laki volcano or at Landmannalaugar.
Travelling along the South Coast of Iceland is amazing and the exotic landscapes will leave you with unforgettable memories. The charm lies in its large and impressive waterfalls and glaciers, unique geology and fascinating medieval history.
Day 1: ARRIVAL IN ICELAND
Arrival in Iceland. If the times allows go for a walk to explore Reykjavík.
Overnight in Reykjavík in one of our 3-star-hotels.
Day 2: GEYSIR HOT SPRING AREA AND GULLFOSS WATERFALL
Drive via the golden circle to the south. Stop at the golden waterfall, Gullfoss, the Geysir hot springs and Þingvellir National Park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Stay for two nights in Fosshotel Hekla or similar.
Day 3: REYKJANES PENINSULA AND BLUE LAGOON
Take a ride over the Reykjanes peninsula to Reykjavík. On this peninsula you will see the powerful hot spring area in Krysuvík, and Gunnuhver. Stop at the Blue Lagoon, where you can stop for a relaxing bath in the natural hot seawater.
Day 4: ICELANDS SOUTH COAST
Travel along the southern coast of Icleand on Road #1. Stop at the waterfall Seljalandsfoss at the edge of the worlds famous Eyjafjallajökull glacier. It is possible to walk behind the waterfall. Stop further in Vík to take a walk on the black sand beach. While driving get impressed with the view to the mighty Vatnajökull glacier.
Overnight for four nights in one of our hotels in Vatnajökull region.
Day 5: HÖFN
Spend the day in the cozy town of Höfn. You can take an ATV Tour on the beach or relax in the Cities swimming pool.
Day 6: GLACIER LAGOON AND PUFFINS
Take a trip on the cape Ingólfshöfði and watch the puffins. Drive to the glacier lagoon Jökulsárlón and take a boat trip in the lagoon. Stop at the farm Brunnhóll for the famous glacier ice cream, which is considered to be one of the best tasting in Iceland.
Day 7: VATNAJÖKULL GLACIER
Use the whole day to enjoy the Vatnajökull area with the national park Skaftafell. Here you find nice well marked paths for a hike. Book an optional guided glacier hike trip. Or go ice climbing with one of the guides from Skaftafell National Park.
Day 8: SKOGARFOSS AND FOLK MUSEUM
Drive along the scenic south coast back to Reykjavík, where you will spend your last nights. On your way stop in Skógar and visit the popular folk museum.
Another option is to drive through the highland via the pearl of the Icelandic highland, Landmannalaugar. Please note that this road is 4x4 only and only opens in the summertime.
Overnight two nights in Reykjavík in one of our 3-star-hotels.
Day 10: REYKJAVÍK
Enjoy the day in Reykjavík. Here you find museums and galleries as well as coffees or restaurants. Visit the Laugardalur area with its farm animal zoo and the big swimming pool.
Day 11: DEPART FOR HOME
If the times allows go downtown Reykjavík to shop for the last souveniers and enjoy a coffee/tea in one of the cities restaurants.
