Fosshotel Westfjords

Nestled in a picturesque village in the northwest of Iceland, Fosshotel Westfjords serves as an ideal base for experiencing the unique wildlife, such as prime puffin sightings, and the breath-taking landscapes of the Westfjords.

Nearby to the hotel, you’ll find Látrabjarg Nesting Cliff, the magnificent Dynjandi Waterfall and Rauðisandur red sand beach, to name just a few incredible sights. The rough and jagged coastline of the Icelandic Westfjords accounts for about a third of the total coastline of the entire country. This amounts to stunning coastal views, ocean structures, and dramatic beaches. Here, you can leave behind the black sand beaches of Iceland’s south and enjoy white and red sandy beach settings on your Westfjords journey. Steep hills and flat-topped mountains make for enthralling hiking landscapes for more active visitors, while the sparse population can mean you’ll not see a soul for hours of driving the winding Westfjords roads.

Fosshotel Westfjords in Patreksfjörður is a three-star hotel that serves as a perfect starting point for experiencing Iceland’s finest attractions. The Westfjords offer an idyllic setting for bird-watching, hiking, and photography, with a variety of activities to immerse yourself in. Whether through group tours or individual exploration, the breath-taking vistas of the area are unforgettable.

After a day of rugged hiking, a long road trip, or being blown away by the incredible waterfalls the Westfjords has to offer, you’ll appreciate a comfortable retreat at the end of the day. Fosshotel Westfjords has everything you need to relax after a long adventure, in the perfect cosy location, in the town of Patrekfjörður, to return to each evening after setting out to discover something new.

Whether you choose to join group tours or simply roam the area by yourself, there is no shortage of breathtaking landscapes in the Icelandic Westfjords - including its very own glacier.

40 modern rooms that offer ocean or mountain views.

Whether we’re a stop on your route or a base for your Westfjords exploration, the rooms at Fosshotel Westfjords have everything you could need.

Interesting places and scenery in Westfjords, Iceland

Rauðisandur near Patreksfjörður

Rauðisandur is the beach around the lagoon Bæjarvaðall. Here you can take a walk on the beach covered by red sand. The red colour comes from the mussels which are washed up at this beach. It can be considered as an endless beach.

The Látrabjarg cliff

The Látrabjarg cliff on the southernmost tip of the Westfjords is one of the busiest bird cliffs in the whole world. It is also the westernmost point of Iceland (and Europe). The cliff is actually composed of individual cliffs in a line spanning 14 km long and up to 441 m high, making it the largest bird cliff in Europe. Safe from the foxes, the birds are fearless and provide stunning opportunities to take pictures from a close range. The puffins are particularly tame and frequent the grassy, higher part of the cliffs.

Dynjandi waterfall

Dynjandi (also known as Fjallfoss) is a set of waterfalls. The waterfall has a height of 100 metres. Underneath the big waterfall (Fjallfoss) are five smaller waterfalls: Hundafoss, Strokkur, Göngumannafoss (beyond which a passage exists), Hrísvaðsfoss and Sjóarfoss. It is just a couple of kilometres drive from the waterfall to the museum of the national hero Jón Sigurðsson in Hrafnseyri.
