Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon

Spot The Northern Lights Over Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and Skaftafell

Positioned exquisitely between the awe-inspiring Skaftafell National Park and the enchanting Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon is a great location for spotting the Northern Lights in Iceland. This area, surrounded by expansive mountains and secluded countryside, presents a unique retreat filled with magnificent landscapes, spectacular waterfalls, serene icebergs, and excellent opportunities for trail exploration.

Positioned a stone's throw from Skaftafell in Iceland, Fosshotel Glacier Lagoon is a prestigious four-star superior accommodation providing 125 chic rooms furnished with indispensable amenities, including complimentary parking, electric car charging points, a gym, and a wellness spa. The hotel's restaurant can accommodate up to 180 guests.

Our spa is a complimentary service/amenity available to all guests staying at the hotel on a first-come, first-served basis. Guests can enjoy the hot tubs, sauna, and gym from 8 AM to 12 PM and 3 PM to 12 AM.

Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon is a great place to watch Iceland’s magical Northern Lights, too. The remote location means that light pollution is at its lowest, so if you’re lucky enough for a clear night sky and high aurora activity, it could be the perfect spot to watch the phenomenon! If this is on your bucket list, this is a great Northern Lights-watching hotel.

As of August 2024, all of our hotels have received Green Key certification from FEE (Foundation for Environmental Education), making us the first fully sustainability-certified hotel chain in Iceland.

Hiking the Svínafellsjökull Glacier

The Svínafellsjökull glacier tongue, part of the immense Vatnajökull Glacier, extends all the way to the green landscapes of Skaftafell. From March to December, you can embark on tours that include engaging and manageable treks across the sharp ridges, azure crevasses, and the vast expanse of glacial tongues characteristic of this extraordinary ice cap.

If you want to see a beach that glitters like diamonds, the magical southeast of Iceland will make your wish come true. The Jökulsárlón glacier lagoon, a marvel of nature's craftsmanship and the deepest lake in Iceland, is adorned with fish, seals, and luminous ice pieces that break the tranquillity of its waters. Stroll along the shoreline to observe the ice dispersed among black sands, each fragment polished by the waves to a brilliant shine, giving the appearance of a diamond-laden beach, brilliantly glittering beneath the sun.
